Roland is the current leader of a rebel group fighting against the Karma Society, the Lokapala. He took control after the death of Greg, and both the Lokapala and Greg's son Fred were put into Roland's hands. Seeing the seemingly hopeless situation in fighting the demons of the Karma Society, Roland took to drowning his sorrows in alcohol.
When Cielo first appeared in the real world, he was captured by the Lokapala and his DNA was used to turn one of their soldiers into a demon. Worried that the soldier would turn against the Lokapala, Roland had him killed. Then, when Fred arrived at the base with Serph, Argilla, and Gale, Roland was shamed about his actions. Despite this, Serph agreed to infiltrate the Internment Facility and rescue the captured humans there, who otherwise would have been processed into canned food.
Once Serph and company reached the Internment Facility, Roland arrived with backup and Cielo, wearing the Embryon's orange mark. He had used the demon virus on himself, and gained atma Indra. From then on, Roland swore off alcohol and traveled with Serph to fight the Karma Society.
On a mission to destroy the Power Plant that Roland would finally meet his match in the form of Meganada. While the others pressed on, Roland turned back to keep the recently released Meganada at bay, but he proved no match for him. Roland was forced to take drastic measures to ensure the safety of those depending on him, and decided to blow up the Power Plant, knowing he would die alongside Meganada. He eventually succeeded in this with the help of Argilla, and they both died with Meganada.
Roland would not be seen again until his solar data reached the Sun, where he would join the newly formed Seraph and his other former companions. Depending on choices made, he would either join them again in the fight for the fate of mankind, or allow Heat to take his place.
