[edit] Description
Kanji Tatsumi is a tough but troubled first year student at Yasogami high, rumored to have defeated a whole bosozoku biker gang by himself back when he was in junior high. He uses steel chairs, wooden tub covers and shields in combat, and his Persona is summoned by being hit with the aforementioned weapon. Kanji's Persona excels in Electric attacks and physical skills.
[edit] In Game
Kanji is the second survivor of Mayonaka TV. His resentment of having his softer side ridiculed by girls, along with his own inner questioning of his sexual orientation, manifests into a shadow that impedes him in both body and mind, and also creates a labyrinth of a for men only sauna.
It's revealed that Kanji's shadow was in fact stemmed from his deep desire to be accepted for who he truly is regardless of his sexual identity (Which, gathering from in-game clues, is most likely bisexuality). After Kanji accepts his shadow, it transforms into the Persona Take-Mikazuchi
Even after being freed, his orientation is still jokingly scrutinized on occasion (mainly by Yosuke), and an interest towards Naoto Shirogane (Possibly because of her masculine personality) seems to add to Kanji's woes.
[edit] S.Link
Kanji is also one of the S. Links in the game. Befriending him will help you realize the potential of the Emperor Arcana. Maxing out his S. Link will allow Take-Mikazuchi to ascend to Rokuten Maou.
The S. Link is initiated by first talking to a girl at the second floor near the stairs of the main school building. The girl will tell you that Kanji has been skulking around the Home Economics room and is scaring everyone. You will then have the option of dragging Kanji out to hear his side of the story. Knowing that you trust him fully as his senior, Kanji will slowly warm up to you.
Kanji's S.Link shows Kanji being more warm-hearted to other people than he lets on. When a child loses a doll of a friend's, Kanji offers to make him a new one to replace the doll the kid lost. However, the kid comes back asking for more dolls since they are becoming popular among both kids and their mothers, allowing Kanji to feel more comfortable with his sewing and craftsman abilities. It is not until much later in the Social Link, with some encouragement from the protagonist that Kanji is finally able to be proud of his abilities and not worry about what others say about them. He then confides with the Main character that although his dad told him to be a man, Kanji had misunderstood him at the time and thought that his father was ashamed for having an effeminate son. However, now that Kanji understands what it means to be a man, Kanji finally accepts the fact that the shadow in the Sauna is a part of him as well.
[edit] Trivia
- In of the S.Link conversations, the kid asks for a Pink Alligator, to which Kanji replies "Oh yeah, like the one in that storybook?" This is a connection to Akinari's story (and S.Link)in Persona 3 about a pink alligator which must have been published.
