In Japanese mythology, Atavaka (better known as Daigensui Myo-o) is among the eight Great Yaksha Kings and an attendant of Bishamonten. It is said that he was at first a child-eating demon until Buddha enlightened him. He gathered together the Yaksha Kings, Four Heavenly Kings and the asura for Buddhification, having them swear oaths of loyalty to Buddha. He is a protector of the Dharma and the southwest direction.
